As a psychologist I encourage..
As a psychologist I encourage clients to connect more with nature. A client came here and then talked about it every week for two months. It had such a profound impact on her emotional well-being, I booked. The first time I've booked for myself. I just came again this weekend with my husband. I am keeping things tech-free but I came online to write this review while sitting in the hammock. We're planning to come back with the family and I also plan to do a group retreat here. I cannot recommend the Bennu Center enough.

This is the best sleep you'll ever have
I planed to exercise, do a nature walk, swing in the hammock, etc. When I tell you I slept for three days straight, I mean it. The bed, the pillows and the sounds of the crickets chirping was all so comfortable it felt like the perfect sleep drug. I spent most of my time in the bed and in the shower which has really good shower pressure. I usually have trouble falling asleep but now that I've gotten good sleep, I want to come back for more. But next time I will explore the property more. It's beautiful.

Paid to stay 20 minutes from my house. 🤔 Worth it! 🙌🏾
My work has been stressed lately and they are denying vacation time so I haven't been able to travel. We live in Raleigh and my sister booked this as a way to take a trip without going far. The first morning, I was the first one awake. I saw three deer grazing in the yard. That's the first time I've seen deer this close up. I watched the sunrise and the lawn and did journaling I kept promising myself to do. I live in Raleigh so I don't need a hotel but this was the best staycation gift I could get.

We stayed in the Marcus Garvey room...
We stayed in the Marcus Garvey room. My wife and I really loved the place. It felt really good to be close to nature like that. We will definitely come back soon.

I didn’t realize how much...
I didn’t realize how much I needed this until I got here. I left feeling lighter, clearer, and ready to deal with some things I've been putting off for a long time. I met a few other people staying here and everyone was so nice. It felt like a community even though we just met.

I have been grieving for two years.
I have been grieving for two years. I stopped feeling anything but sadness. I usually prefer to stay in high end hotels when I travel. This place is nice in a very different way. It feels like "home" and being here makes me feel connected to my sister and my ancestors. I'll be back a lot. I will also join the patron program soon.

NGL TBH tried to do the tech-free thing
My wife wanted us to do a three day tech-free detox. NGL the first day without my phone was rough. I felt so bored I kept falling asleep. The second day, I kept reaching for it and feeling like I was missing something. NGL I was going to sneak onto the wi-fi in the washroom, But I didn't and by the afternoon, I stopped thinking about it. I'm like the guy who said he got the best sleep. The sleep and energy here is powerful.

I used to be a part of Blacknificent
I used to be a part of Blacknificent and cut wood with Baba Kamau. Every Black person should experience this place. It feels like home is all I can say.

About the Bennu Center - A Living Tribute "in the Spirit of the People"

The Evolution of the Bennu Center

What once began as a fantastical dream for a wife raised in Connecticut and the south and a devoted husband and father, born and raised in Brooklyn, has now been transformed into the Bennu Center — a Pan African oasis rooted in self-sufficiency, cultural pride, and community healing.

Once the private home of Dr. Mawiyah and Kambon and their family, it now opens its door to the public in tribute to his life’s work and legacy. In the spirit of the people — the meaning of the Kambon name in Swahili — this sacred space stands as a living testament to restoration, reflection, and reconnection, offering a noble refuge for all who seek renewal of mind, body, and spirit.
